Of AMD’s 800 series chipset, we’ve already seen quite a bit. First out was the high end of the low end, the 880G, then 890FX, and now the rest are coming out. Overall, the 8XX northbridge is slightly disappointing. While they are certainly improved over their predecessors, they aren’t revolutionary by any means, featuring a clock speed increase and an increase in PCIE lanes, respectively. Granted, with much of the northbridge’s functionality moved to the CPU, we can’t always expect monumental changes with chipsets.
